  • Close curtains and blinds during the day to prevent the sun from heating rooms.
  • A ceiling fan is a great way to make a room feel up to 10 degrees cooler. Be sure to set your fan counterclockwise so it will pull the cooler air from the ground and circulate it around the rest of the room.
  • Turn off your air conditioner when you leave home for an extended period of time. When you return, don't set the thermostat to a temperature cooler than what you are most comfortable; this uses more energy without cooling your home any faster.
